Duncan Hawthorne is President and Chief Executive Officer of Bruce Power, a position he has held since the company’s creation on April 1, 2001. Duncan is an internationally recognized nuclear leader having spent more than 35 years in the industry. He advanced from the shop floor to hold senior positions in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. Duncan was educated at Strathclyde University in Scotland, he is a Chartered Engineer and is a Fellow of both the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical Engineers. Duncan’s contribution to the nuclear industry has been recognized through a series of awards including being named the Ontario Energy Association’s Leader of the Year, the Canadian Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada, and receiving the Ian McCrae award for leadership in the Canadian Nuclear Industry. Duncan is a past chair of both the Canadian Nuclear Association and the World Association of Nuclear Operators Atlanta Center, and continues to serve on the board of both organizations. Duncan is also committed to making life better for others, spearheading millions in fundraising for groups like Easter Seals Ontario and the United Way of Bruce Grey. Under his leadership, Bruce Power also provides over $1 million in community sponsorships annually.
